We aren't the Griswald's....

We have never been a family that puts up more than a few strands of lights, a couple figurines and call it outdoor decorating. We're pretty plain. I like white lights that twinkle. I have a thing for Christmas trees and wreaths. I made both of our wreaths that hang on our front porch.

And, if outdoor decorating requires a nail in the wall or more than 3 electrical extension cords I get nervous. Once, we got brave and lined our walkway in lights when we lived in Ohio, but the path was pretty accessible to electrical outlets along the way.
In our current house I enjoy decorating just the two porches with simple things and we definitely don't do "yard" lights or animated/blow up structures in the yard.

We enjoy it and it makes the kids happy enough and it's easier to take it all down during the California winter otherwise known as wind and rain season.

We have some neighbors that go all out. A house on peppermint Place has their entire house wired to an am radio signal tower int heir front yard and they have their own station that plays 7 songs with the lights in-sync. There's a house just 3 doors down that blares Christmas music in the darkness. I love looking all the light displays every year. I'm just never motivated to out-do my neighbors and put up more than we do.
