The kids were up at 7am to open presents. Present opening took a long time but was politely controlled and fun. There were few tears (Ava's Holiday boutique item purchased at school for Mommy broke in the bag they wrapped it in) and Sophia felt that something Isabella got was unfair...until she was reminded that if you complained about fairness at Christmas you'd loose a gift.
There was lots of screaming and squealing when gifts were opened. That's always a good sign. Everyone got what they asked for from Santa. Santa messed up Quentin's gift. he was explicit about the Hotwheels track having "jumps" and although Santa bought the only track he could find and thought the jumps were suitable...apparently "Santa brought Quentin a Hotwheel track that doesn't jump"...Quentin rolls his eyes when he says this but he's not upset with Santa. He's happy because he had changed his mind so often every time he saw Santa that Santa also alerted his mom and dad that he wanted the Batman Cave, which he also got and he played with that all day.
I spent the day napping in my chair with my leg elevated and opening the plethora of packaging and doing some minor assembly. It really worked to our benefit this year that the toys were restricted from the girls Christmas lists.
We had our "traditional" Chinese dinner tonight. At dinner we took turns saying what our favorite thing we opened was. Isabella said it was her guitar, Sophia exclaimed that the Big Top Cupcake Maker was the best (she can recite the entire infomercial). Ava said it had to be her gift from Santa...4 human anatomy models, the heart, the brain, the skeleton and the guts. Quentin said he really liked his Batman Cave. Rami thought the surprise shoes I bought him were pretty darn cool and I said I loved my cloth Nutcracker embroidered napkins that i opened yesterday before dinner.
We're exhausted but happy today. Merry Christmas to all. Thank you to our wonderful family and friends for sharing the special moments in our lives.
