Chocolatte

Introducing the newest member of our family Chocolatte. We call her Latte, but you know how we like long names around here.

We went to the pet store yesterday to "look" at the animals. We were looking and Isabella and Ava were really excited about the hamsters and for the first time ever asked "can we get one". Well, I had been thinking about this for awhile now...so I was prepared.

I asked Isabella to read all the signs and information sheets about the animals to make sure she was ready. Ava was jumping up and down for the dwarf hamsters and a ball for the hamsters. We asked the salesperson for help and information. The salesperson did not think a dwarf hamster would be good for our young brood of kiddos. Those dwarf hamsters are aggressive and skiddish and they bite when they are scared. She asked if I'd prefer a rat (um, NO!) and then after telling me rats poop when they are scared I definately said NO! So, I mentioned I had a Guinea Pig as a kid and I really thought that would be better. The girls didn't initially like that the GP's were bigger (because at this age...tiny is cute).

But, once we got the GP out of the cage and let Isabella hold it on her lap Isabella was sold. Latte sat there on Isabella's lap for almost an hour while Isabella quizzed the saleperson on some really smart questions. I sat there in amazement of Isabella as she asked all the questions about diet, sleeping, playing, etc. I agreed to a pet mainly because it seems as if Isabella is ready to be a responsible pet owner.

Sophia has a dog and cat fear and she wasn't with us during the purchase. So, when she got home from science camp she was excited to have a GP "like Lenny on Wonderpets". We're hoping that Latte will help Sophia overcome her fear of small animals.

Rami came home from a 4 day trip to Ohio about 15 minutes after I had the cage set up. Did Imention I did not clear this with him at all...he had no clue really. But, he's happy with it of the kids are. He did say he will not be cleaning the cage. But, we all know eventually he will ;-)

What a great pet! I had four different ones when I was growing up. (One of the ones I had was purchased pregnant and we didn't know that, and she had two babies! YIKES!) Ella wants one, but she needs to be older, and so does Pancake! Latte is SO cute! I love G-pigs! Totally agreed on the dwarf hamsters. I had a nice one and I had a MEAN one. They do bite and it isn't so fun. They don't live very long either. And they can get lost very easily, especially by little ones! :) Enjoy your new addition! SO CUTE!!!

You know. My GP as a kid was supossed to be a male. A few weeks after I got him home...HE had 2 babies. Opps. I think the pet shops do a better job of keeping them seperated these days.
