Aliens and Angels

Well, it's apparent. It's time for us to find a new church. We've been slacking in this department since we moved to California almost 5 years ago. We haven't found anything that is our style that is also our denomination. But, after a conversation yesterday with Q it's apparent that we need to give this child some religious education as well.

Background:
Q had a balloon that he wanted to take to the park. I warned him of the dangers of taking your balloon to the park. If it blows away, it's gone and there's no crying about that. Agreed-agreed.

15 minutes later the balloon flies away....

In an effort to help console their brother Sophia and Ava tell Q how nice it is that the angels will get to play with his balloon now. Q does his best to man up and tries to think about his balloon and the angels.

The next day, he must have been thinking about his balloon in the car while we were driving. The conversation goes something like this:
Q: Where did my balloon go?
Mom: In heaven with the angels and Jesus.
Q: In space?
Mom: Well, yes, heaven is where space is at. But, remember sisters said the angels and Jesus are playing with your balloon now.
Q: Is Jesus and astronaut?
Mom: LOL, no it's Jesus.
Q: But, does he see the astronauts.
Mom: sure he does.
Q: and the angels...those are aliens?
Mom: *laughing even harder* no, they are not aliens.
Q: *really stopping to think about all this*

He dropped the subject because he wasn't sure what was next. He didn't know how to reconcile that he thought space was all about aliens and astronauts and now I'm telling him about Angels and Jesus in Heaven and that they are all the same.

Poor guy. But, I must say...I am impressed at the correlations he drew between what i was telling him and how he tried to understand it. Not too bad for a boy who is almost 4. i can tell he's going to enjoy a career where things are very straight forward rather than abstract. :)
