In an effort to include some current geography and some history in to Isabella's 9 year old world we included a visit to the Capital in Sacramento (something Isabella just learned about last week). I'm pretty sure the most interesting part of the tour for Q was going through Capital security. He asked if we needed to take our shoes off (like the airport) and he was brave enough to ask the security officer if he should remove his cap before he walked through the metal detector.
We didn't do the actual guided tour of the Capital. We just looked around on our own and explained the State government to the kids. There were a few rooms set up for display to show how the Capital used to be. Ava noted that the old Gov's used to like to read a lot of books. We all decided that the safe in the treasury room wasn't nearly large enough for any sort of real money. Of course all they wanted to hear about is how Arnold used to be an actor in Hollywood before he was a Governor. The kids pretty much thought everything about Sacramento and the Capital was boring and they were ready to move on to the next tour stop...
