One of the most anticipated events on the tour. Everyone was eager for free samples and did nothing but ask about the gross flavors of jelly beans.
The Jelly belly Factory is in Fairfield, CA. Unfortunately, the factory floor was not actually in production but we still were able to take a guided tour and watch videos about the history of Jelly Belly and see how things were made. It was both educational and fun and the kids really paid attention to the factory process. We also got to view works of art made from actual jelly belly jelly beans in mosaic form.
*Interesting note* The Ronald Reagan portrait is the first work of art ever made out of Jelly beans. Ronald Reagen developed his fondness for Jelly beans while he was then Gov. of CA (in Sacramento) and was trying to kick his smoking habit in the 1960s/1970s. The candy company was just starting to make jelly beans and they sent some to Ron in the Capital not far from their Fairfield factory. And thus the popularity of Jelly Belly jelly beans formed. Ron even had a special jelly bean holder made for Airforce 1...so his jelly bean jar wouldn't fall over during turbulence.
In the end we were given a free sample of Jelly belly jelly beans and we bought a few souvies.
