I'm making Rouladen right now. It smells delicious! Elvis is singing Christmas songs. The kids are watching Christmas Cartoons. We're not doing any visiting or travelling tonight. Just staying home as a family and enjoying the day. We've been relaxing all day and having fun.
Every year some people ask me what is it that we actually eat on Christmas Eve.
German Rouladen
4 sirloin tip steak - thin (pound flat if needed)
8 slices of Bacon
8 slices of dill pickles (long strips sliced lengthwise) I use sweet gherkin instead.
1 onion (cut like and orange...into 8ths)
Brown Prepared mustard jar
Vegetable Oil
tooth picks
salt and pepper
Heinez Homestyle gravy and sour cream (or try to get Knorrs Oxtail soup mix)Serve with egg noodles
Directions:
Pound steaks with meat tenderizer mallet until 1/8 inch thick. Season steaks with salt and pepper. Spread mustard thickly on one side of steak. Place two slices of raw bacon, Divide the onion evenly onto each steak and place two pickle slices on each steak. Starting from the narrowest end of each steak, roll tightly (jelly roll style) and secure with tooth pick. Brown the meat roll on all sides in oil on stove top. Place in oven pan and heat at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Sauce: Make oxtail soup according to directions on package OR Warm Heinez Homestyle brown beef gravy and stir in sour cream until creamy. Pour over fully cooked Rouladen and serve.
Serve over Egg Noodles.
Guten Apitit!
