Race for Humanity 2010

Today we ran a 5K (our first time ever running a race as a family) and we found Ava's "talent".

I am so happy we took the morning to enjoy running together. I think I have a new running partner for myself as well ;).

This was my 'recovery" race. a tester to see how well I could actually run in a race 4 months post injury. And, an attempt at training myself mentally to not push through limits of pain. My first 10K of the season is going to be on Memorial day and I was starting to have an "itch" to run.

These kids were so excited yesterday afternoon when we went to register for the race and then we had fun carbing up and hydrating as a family last night. They watched me last year before every race and they were thrilled to be a part of this.

The weather this morning was beautiful, the race low-key (600 5K runner/walkers), the course...flat!

On your mark, get set, GO!

Isabella: a true soccer player. She can sprint intervals for an hour but she can't maintain that for a full 3 miles. She lagged back at the 3/4 mile mark. However, this is her second 5K in 6 months and she shaved 5 minutes off her total time. Still an impressive showing at 39:10.

Sophia: better at pacing herself, she held on for the first mile and gave the next mile a fighting chance. This was her first ever race and she finished at 39:12.

Ava (and me): AMAZING Ava. She set the pace for me and she ran the entire time. She held a steady 5.3 mph average and then burst through the last half mile at 7mph. She was quite the sight to see and my heart was bursting with pride. She exclaimed at the end of the race 'Mom, I think I found my talent".

Rami (and Q in the stroller): They were the rear car in our running train. Rami and the empty stroller finished in 38:47. He let Q out in the final .2 mile and Sophia and Q finished hand in hand.

What a fun morning.
