The final thing has been crossed off my list of California adventures. We visited Joshua Tree National Park and went hiking. The park is so huge that we weren't able to hike every trail and see everything that there is to offer in the Desert. But, we were able to give the kids a good taste of desert hiking.
We saw lost of rocks, sand, interesting plants that do interesting things to survive in desert climates, cacti in bloom, a few lizards and insects, blue skis and sunshine, the San Andreas fault line and several mountain peaks.
We hiked 4 areas that were about 3 miles total. the kids loved the adventure.
Quentin is definitely going to be our hiker. He just had to climb up and jump off every rock he saw, even after he got injured showing me how great he is he still said he wanted to do it again.
Sophia is our resident expert Girl Scout who decided she was going to be our "leader" and she pointed out things of great interest along the way.
Isabella, much like her momma, wasn't going to actually touch anything and was fearful to climb things but she did have fun and admired the beauty from afar.
Ava was a little slow but really enjoyed learning about the desert and especially was addicted tot he Junior Ranger book the Park Rangers gave the kids.
Overall a great Spring, Earth week activity for the kids and I'm so glad we were able to offer our kids this experience.
We also have discovered...they want to do the Grand Canyon, but they aren't ready for it yet. Their legs must be stronger and they need to be a little older so that they don't wander off and touch things they shouldn't when our backs are turned.
