Sophia was so excited today to get her upper appliance off today. She's had it on since last October and has faithfully worn her face mask for 12+ hours a day for all except 2 days total.

We went in last week expecting to get the appliance removed and left disappointed when they said it would be another 8 weeks but we'd have to come back today for x-rays. Today we went in and I what do you know? They said, it's coming off today. They literally yanked it out with a pair of pliers. Sophia was not happy because as you can imagine that appliance was holding a lot of teeth in place that probably would have fallen out within the last 9 months. So, her poor wiggly teeth got a jolt and she started bleeding pretty bad. She definitely doesn't like the sight of blood (although, her sister Ava, who wants to be a brain surgeon wanted to see all the blood).
She's pretty happy now about having it out, she says it feels weird and she got ice cream immediately afterwards :-) She does seem to have a couple broken molars in the back.
The lower appliance has to stay in until she gets her braces in a few years. We got back in 8 weeks to see if she is going to need a retainer or a set of braces a little sooner than expected. If she does get braces now it's just to make room for teeth that are stuck and she'll most likely need braces again in her teenage years.
