Several weeks ago the girls decided to try their hand at writing some wonderful literature pieces inspired by the statement "Together we can...". http://livingintheubaydifamily.blogspot.com/2010/11/together-we-can.html
This past Friday we attended an award ceremony for the participants of the challenge.
And the winners are....
2nd place in the Kindergarten-2nd grade division for literature is...Ava Ubaydi! Her piece titled "Together we can plant flowers, the horrible sight" will go on to both the district competition and the state competition. (there were only 2 entries at Baldwin Elementary for this division/category ;o)).
3rd place in 3rd-5th grade division for literature is...Sophia Ubaydi! Her piece titled "Together we can save the ocean animals" was well thought out and the competition in the upper grades was stiff. She even beat out her older sister, Isabella. Sadly, only the top 2 entries go on to district and state competition. Sophia is not understanding why her piece isn't going further, like Ava's and I'm working on explaining it to her. She should definitely be proud of her accomplishment...especially given her recent injury and recovery. I had hoped this would be a good morale boost for her but so far she's not seeing it that way.
