Head Injuries and hospitals

Boy oh boy...I should go back to school to become a nurse specializing in brain function and TBI's.

On Wednesday, Rami's dad was rushed to the Emergency Room because he'd been falling frequently and experiencing muscle weakness. We spent 3 nights in the hospital learning that this is a progression of his Parkinson's Disease and this is how Parkinson's manifests itself in the later stages. Friday, after spending nearly the whole day in the hospital I came home for an hour, while the kids were coming home from school. As we were leaving the house to head out for Girl Scouts and Ballet Q fell down 4 steps that lead from the house to the garage.

I heard that all too familiar, heart stopping, head smack sound on the concrete floor followed by the screams of a 4 year old who doesn't usually cry when he's hurt. When I rushed to his side he told me through the sobs that the front of his head hurt between his eye and ear. All my mommy bells and sirens were going off. This was certainly a concussion (I am afterall an expert at that by now). I rushed to Girl Scouts to pick up Sophia, all the while coordinating with Rami (while he was at a different hospital with his dad) as to which hospital I was going to take Q to.

We agreed closer was better and I rushed tot he Rochester hospital. They got Q right in and ordered a cat scan. He came back clear for bleeding and fractures and I breathed a sigh of relief. He did have a faint black eye developing and still had a headache for a day but after 24 hours he quickly recovered. Sophia was very happy to see him bounce back quicker than she did.

I think Q was jealous of his Jeddo (grandpa) and wanted to see what all the fuss about cat scans, hospitals and rolling beds was all about.
