It's 6 days until out 15th wedding anniversary. I saw a billboard for a concert a few months ago but Rami said he was going to be out of town that day.
Yesterday at 3:30pm I received a text message that said "Make sure the kids have eaten dinner by 5pm and you are showered and ready for a night out". I replied "why?" LOL! Of course I was going to need more details than that if I was going to be dressed properly. So...after much pressure I was finally told that it was inland not ocean and that jeans would be fine but I'd be standing outside so I needed shoes that were comfortable and a light sweater if it was cooler later.
Hmmm...so as I showered and dressed I determined that it was likely a concert but I couldn't be absolutely sure.
The sitter arrived at 6pm and we headed south. We stopped at my favorite place, The Public House in Temecula. I would have been perfectly happy staying there for the evening...I like their bands.
After dinner we headed south again. After getting off on an exit that we normally take to Oceanside (but turning left instead of right) I wondered. The only time I had ever been that direction was one time at the Wild Animal Park...that couldn't be it.
The road twisted and turned and we pulled into the valet parking for Pala Casino. OK...SO, I know it's an event. I was trying to quickly read the marquee. Inside the casino we sat down to play blackjack. Oh dear...another date night at the blackjack table?
The dealer said...So, are you here for the concert? I smiled...what concert? Journey! What?! Wow! Yeeeeeeeee.......
In 15 minutes at the Blackjack table we won $400. NICE!
We headed out to the outdoor venue and it was a beautiful night. The concert was amazing. They sang a mix of old and new songs (they needed more of the greatest hits but I won't complain). The lead singer DOES sound like young Steve Perry when he sings. When he talks you can hear a bit of his Filipino accent. We took some video, had some great seats.
Exactly 2 hours later the concert was over, I got my concert t-shirt and we stopped at the Blackjack table one more time. Won another $135 in 15 minutes and left.
We were up $535 for the night which covered the costs of the tickets, the shirt, the food and drinks and the babysitter. We even managed to make a profit...of course I love those nights at the casino. :-D
What a great surprise for a 15 year anniversary. Video is below.
