We are the Champions, we are the Champ-ions.....

Of the Division.

The Red Hawks defended their top seeded position in a close championship game this morning.

The Lower Girls division of MYBL is composed of 3rd and 4th grade girls. The blue team was the only team that won a game against the Red Hawks during regular season game play. Nerves were high, tension was in the air.

Isabella played all 4 quarters on the court. There were two extremely tall 10 year olds on the blue team and Isabella's job was to play high post and defend, defend, defend.

The nerves and butterflies were in full effect during Qtr 1. You could read the nervousness on Isabella's face (she had fans in the audience for the first time ever). But, by the 2nd quarter Isabella was fired up. She said the big girl was talking smack and telling her to step off. Which only made her even more agressive as she got all up int he girl's face. She was fouled on twice and got managed 2 free throw baskets (out of 3). She fouled once and the mom in me said place nice but the competitor in me knew she was only doing the job she was told to do.

By the 4th quarter things were tense. The refs messed up a call and made the tight score even tighter. The girls were changing players and one girl didn't hear her name called so there were 6 players on the court. The refs didn't reset play as they should have during the switch and then awarded 2 penalty points to the blue team.

Ultimately, the final score was 16-14 with the Red Hawks in 1st place. Great Job Isabella.
