This week has been weird.
On Wednesday we took Latte to the Vet. She had actually ripped off one of her nails and had bled a couple weeks ago but I haven't had time to cut her nails. The one thing about Guinea Pigs is you are supposed to cut their nails frequently. But, when you have 4 kids plus your own nails to do GP nail cutting doesn't rank. So, I had been looking at her nails thinking "I really need to do this". I even looked up how to do it and asked some GP friends I knew. Everyone and everything said it can be done at home but it's hard because their nails are black and they can bleed a lot. So, after her ripping a nail off and bleeding I decided it was time. We had a free day on Wednesday so i loaded all the kids up for a field trip to the Veterinarians. Ava was excited to see the "veggetarians". Latte was very nervous but the kids did a great job telling the vet all about Latte and how they take care of her. Latte was weighed (2 pounds) and examined and had her nails trimmed. Ava asked if she was getting a GP mani/pedi and told them to paint Latte's nails pink please. Latte is healthy, happy and well groomed now.
Wednesday night I noticed that some ice cream was melting in the freezer. I chalked it up to someone having left the freezer door open and I ate the ice cream.
Last night I came home between running kids around town and opened the freezer to find that EVERYTHING had completely melted or defrosted. Of course I was frustrated throwing things away and things being wasted. Isabella asked what happened and immediately said it was probably her who had left the freezer open when she got ice for her water bottle that morning. She started to cry and apologize. I moved all the meat to the fridge and decided to cook it up when I returned last night. Well, when I returned 2 hours later things were even worse. I held off on cooking things up and waited for the temperature to return to normal this morning.
This morning at 6am the temperature int he unit was 45 degrees in the freezer and fridge. 2 hours later it had climbed to almost 60. At 7am I started throwing away food that had been defrosting and sitting for over 24 hours now. It wasn't much but I did have to save my brick of Coney Dog chili that Rami just brought back from Detroit. I will eat and most likely get food poisoning I'm sure.
I called GE repair and a local repair person at 8am this morning and told them whoever gets here the fastest wins. The local guy was here by 10am and replaced the mother board by 11am. Who knew that a basic 3 year old refrigerator even had a mother board.
