Coronado (again)

I know....we have never been to Coronado Cays in San Diego in all of the 5 years we've lived here and then just in the last 6 weeks we've gone 3 times. We love it there! We love the island atmosphere and the fact that you can be so near the City all at once.

My friend Cecile and some of her family were coming to visit Southern California and we decided to meet her in Coronado during part of her vacation and stay overnight visiting. Man, the kids were EXCITED! Like excitement on steroids. They really enjoyed a mini vacation with another family. So, 7 kids (ages: 15, 9, two 8 year olds and two 4 year olds) and 2 moms spent 2 days and 1 night enjoying the fun and sun of Coronado.

The beach was first up. We drove over to the beach in front of Hotel Del Coronado and frolicked in the sand and ocean in the same spot where Marilyn Monroe once stood during a movie. We walked to the beach town and had dinner at a diner and then walked back for a gorgeous sunset on the beach.

Once we returned to the hotel we went for a nice relaxing night time swim in one of the greatest hotel pools ever (heated and great views of the city lights).

We woke up in the morning and enjoyed a walk down to the portside village for breakfast. Along the way we got a wonderful surprise and we got to see a pod of dolphins frolicking in the morning waters of the bay. Seeing wild dolphins jumping and playing was so wonderful.

After breakfast we took the ferry boat over to the Port of San Diego and toured the USS Midway Museum, an aircraft carrier that served our country from the 1960s to the mid 90s. We returned to the "island" at noon and grabbed a pizza and decided to eat by the pool at the hotel.

An afternoon spent poolside, chatting and playing and laughing. Then it was off for ice cream for dinner and then the sad goodbyes. 3 out of 4 Ubaydi's were crying as we left the hotel. They didn't want to leave their new friends. It was so great to spend some relaxing time with friends.

Good times!
